Elevated Standards in the Homebuilding Industry

For Immediate Release:
Home Builders are Keeping Their Heads above Water and Surviving this Tough Market by Investing in the New Energy Efficient Standard of Living.
Homebuilders will be navigating this year's selling season in rough waters. Because of our current economic state, there is a weakened demand from homebuyers paired with a smaller pool of qualified customers. Builders now have to use innovative approaches to keep their heads above water, but, they are surviving this tough market by investing in quality design and energy efficiency improvements.
As we know, the real estate market dictates the price of homes, and today a consumer can find surplus of existing homes for sale at a price significantly lower than that of most new construction. Builders have had to get creative to differentiate their new homes from what is already out there.
One approach builders are taking to distinguish themselves as leaders in their industry is to partner with a national or local program that has set a standard for energy efficiency in building performance, such as RESNET or ENERGY STAR. These partnerships allow the builder to provide a long-term energy performance measurement to a new home according to the industry standard of which a home’s energy efficiency is measured.
Builders across the United States have recognized the movement toward this new standard of homes that are more efficient, cost effective, comfortable, and healthy places to live as well as maintaining a higher market value. It is time for builders to take action so that they can compete in the current market. For most of us, home ownership is one of our largest investments, an investment that should be preserved. As consumers, we are looking for builders who offer a better product, a product that is more efficient, now more than ever. Homes with increased energy performance are the future standard of living.
